Rasa - The funeral of Grand Ayatollah Mohammadi-Gilani was held in the holy city of Qom on 12th of the holy month of Ramadhan at the age of 86. He passed away on July 9th (Ramadhan 11th).

Rasa News Agency reports – The funeral of Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Mohammadi-Gilani was held in the holy city of Qom on 12th of the holy month of Ramadhan at the age of 86. He passed away on July 9th (Ramadhan 11th).

 

Besides being a great religious scholar, Ayatollah Mohammadi-Gilani also held many political positions in the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was a member of the Assembly of Experts of the Islamic Republic of Iran representing Tehran, a chief justice of the Supreme Court of Iran, a member of the constitution review committee, a presiding judge in Tehran's Islamic Revolutionary Court under Imam Khomeini, and was a member of the Guardian Council.

 

The sorrowful funeral procession took place in the presence of many grand scholars, clergymen, seminarians and various people. It beginning at 6:00 pm from Imam Hasan al-‘Askari Mosque to the Shrine of Lady Fatimah al-Ma’soumah, where he was buried.

 

Many prominent scholars and religious and government personalities, including Ayatollahs Mohammad-Taqi Mesbah-Yazdi, Mohsen Kharrazi, Mortaza Moqtadaei, Hasan Mamdouhi, Abbas Ka’bi, Abbas Mahfouzi, and Ali Larijani, the speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Mohammad Sa’idi, the custodian of the Holy Shrine of Lady Fatimah al-Ma’soumah, Mahmoud Rajabi, a member of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, Satted Mohammad-Vaez Mousavi-Yazdi and Sayyed Mohammad Gharavi were present at the funeral.

 

Representatives from the offices and houses of the sources of emulation, members of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, members of the Assembly of Experts, the mayor of Qom, the representative of Qom in parliament, as well as provincial, national and other prominent personalities were also present at the funeral.

 

Ayatollah Ja’far Sobhani led Ayatollah Mohammadi-Gilani’s funeral prayers in the Shrine of Lady Fatimah al-Ma’soumah. His Eminence was buried in the shrine’s Shahid Motahhari Courtyard beside several other grand scholars.

 

Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Mahmoud Hashemi-Shahroudi, vice-president of the Assembly of Experts, Ayatollah Hosayn Nouri-Hamadani, and Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi-Amoli, sources of emulation, are among those scholars who have issued a message of condolences.
