Rasa News Agency reports - Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Reza Taghavi, the leader of the Policy Council of Friday Prayers’ Leaders, spoke to a gathering of seminarians and scholars from the seminaries of the province of Tehran about the importance of hijab. He stressed that hijab is a duty of Islam and a method of showing respect for [Islamic] law in which there is much divine blessings.

Hujjat al-Islam Taghavi explained that respect for divine law is a source of growth for the evaluation of society. “Laws discern the duties of individuals and he who knows and acts according to his responsibilities does not infringe on the rights of others in society,” he stated.

He said that it is our duty to contribute to the social order and to know the blessings of being responsible. “If we want to help society we must be responsible,” he explained.

Hujjat al-Islam Taghavi explained that dutifulness (to God and society) is one of the beauties and lessons of the life of Lady Fatimah az-Zahra (A) which we can evaluate and implement in our lives. “She was very conscientious of her duties to God. Lady Fatimah (A) knew this world was only transient, and this made her content with God. Her contentment was God’s contentment and her anger was God’s anger,” he said.

Lady Fatimah (A) was aware of her duties to others, especially the poor. This was one of the important specialities of the life of this holy lady. “The day after Imam Ali (A) and Lady Fatimah’s wedding, a poor person came and told them that he had no clothes to wear. Lady Fatimah (A) gave her own wedding shirt to this poor person,” Hujjat al-Islam Taghavi narrated.

He explained that a husband and wife must be equal and coordinate and harmonize their thoughts, faith, ethics, and religious beliefs. They must honour each other. Imam Ali (A) has said “I praise a wife who is like Lady Fatimah (A).”

Hujjat al-Islam Taghavi expressed disappointment that today, headscarves are being pushed back so much that they are barely on a woman’s head and are given less importance than they were 50 years ago: “Today, a woman wearing a headscarf in Paris causes the regime to tremble so much that laws banning the hijab have been adopted [in France]!” He said that the French secular regime is considered the “cradle of liberty” by many in the West.

The morals and importance give to hijab by this blessed lady should be applied around the world. “The world is in need of a Fatimi culture,” he concluded.
