RNA - "The victory of the Islamic resistance movement in Lebanon would not have been possible if there had not been the backing of Iran and Syria," Sheikh Qassem qouted by FNA as addressing a counter-terrorism conference in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Friday.
He also pointed to the victories of the Palestinian resistance movement against Israel, and said, "Gaza could not hold its head up, if it didn't have the support of Iran and Syria."
The 33-day war also called the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah War and known in Lebanon as the July War was a conflict in Lebanon and the Golan Heights that started by Israel's invasion of Southern Lebanon in July 2006, and continued until a United Nations-brokered ceasefire went into effect in the morning on 14 August 2006, though it formally ended on September 8, 2006 when Israel withdrew from Lebanese soil and lifted its naval blockade of Lebanon.
In August 2013, Secretary-General of the Lebanese Ummah Movement Abdul Nasser al Jabri lauded the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for the people and government of Lebanon in their resistance against the Zionist regime during the 33-day war in Summer 2006.
Al Jabri, a Sunni Muslim leader, said in a statement to mark the 7th anniversary of the victory of Resistance in the 33-day war against the Israeli aggression on Lebanon that Iranian and Syrian supports played a significant role in the historical victory.
He also thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for contributing to the reconstruction of Lebanon after the war, saying Iran has always stood by Lebanese people even in the most difficult periods.
