RNA – Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Mohammad Bahrul-Uloum, one of the most distinguished scholars in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf, passed away as a result of cancer on the morning of Tuesday, April 5, 2015 in the holy city.
He had been in a coma for more than a month due to liver cancer.
His funeral ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 8 in Holy city of Najaf and a three-day long commemoration ceremony will begin on Thursday, April 9 at Najaf’s al-Alamayn Institute of Higher Studies.
Najaf provincial council also announced a three-day mourning period.
Ayatollah Bahrul-Uloum was born in Najaf on December 17, 1927 and fought against the ex-Iraqi dictator Saddam Husayn. Due to his opposition to Saddam’s Ba’thist regime, His Eminence lived many years in exile in London, United Kingdom.
