Rasa News Agency – Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi has issued a statement requesting all Iraqi groups to put all their differences aside in order to save their country from the dangers of the divisive occupying forces.
The following is the text of the statement:
In the Name of God, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
With attention to our neighbourly country of Iraq and our strong cultural and religious ties of our nation with the good people of that country, we are extremely concerned over the differences regarding the political issues between the various political groups which have become apparent. At a time when the enemies are mercilessly and irrationally occupying parts of the country and some of these foreign occupiers are striving to break Iraq into several parts and bring about its dissolution.
Without doubt, there is only one path to national unity. In order to prevent the breakdown and eviction of the barbaric and bloodthirsty enemies, it is crucial that all Iraqi political groups follow the path of sacrifice and restraint and pay attention to their divine duties in the face of the current conditions.
We ask all political parties, for the sake of God and for the followers of Islamic and for the love of their country to reasonably and rationally sit together, and cooperate to save their country from the dangers of the occupiers and to build a strong, proud and prosperous Iraq.
Our view is that the final word to solve Iraq’s differences is the opinion of the revered source of emulation, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sistani. It is not too late to solve the current problems with His Eminence’s assistance.
I pray to God Almighty for the astuteness, awareness and care by the authorities toward all the people and I hope that soon we will receive a message of glad tidings which expresses national unity.
