Rasa News Agency reports - Hossein-Ali Amiri, the spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of the Interior, spoke to reporters at a farewell ceremony commemorating the passing of Ayatollah Mohammad Mohammadi-Gilani at Tehran’s Ark Mosque on July 12 regarding the security situation of Iran’s border with Iraq.

He introduced the new assistant of security at the Ministry of the Interior and told reporters: “Mr [Hossein] Zolfeghari has begun his term as the head of this position and Mr [Ali] Abdollahi has left his position as the head of the Armed Forces.”

Amid mounting terror activities by the “Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)” terrorist group in neighbouring Iraq, Iran’s armed forces have increased their presence along the country’s western borders.

“The situation along our borders is very good and there is no concern in this respect,” Mr Amiri explained in regards to the potential threat by ISIL Takfiri terrorists operating in Iraq. He also explained that Mr Abdorreza Rahmani-Fazli, the Interior Minister, visited the western border with Iraq in Kordestan and Kermanshah provinces in June, and explained that the military and police commanders have taken all necessary actions, as they have followed closely the tragic developments in Iraq.

In Kermanshah province, Brigadier-General Kiumars Sheikhi pointed to the visit by the Interior Minister to the western province, and stated that following Minister Rahmani-Fazli’s visit, appropriate measures would be taken to further monitor Iran’s border with Iraq. The commander said the borders are being physically and electronically monitored. He explained that there are no security threats in the province, adding that border guards would not allow enemies to even make a smallest move along the borders.
