Rasa News Agency reports – Ayatollah Abbas Ka’bi, a member of the Society of Teachers of the Seminary of Qom, has spoken to Rasa News Agency in regards to the execution of Mahafarid Amir Khosravi, a corrupt Iranian businessman who executed for his involvement in a large bank fraud, and detailed what actions must be done to prevent further economic corruption in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“Corrupt businessmen think that they can do whatever they want, but this method [of punishment] shows the strength of the judiciary and is the correct way to deal with cases of corruption,” he stated.

Ayatollah Ka’bi said that it is necessary to deal with all cases of corruption: “We are hopeful that the judiciary does not make any exceptions when dealing with all cases of corruption in all posts and positions in which it exists and imposes the law upon all perpetrators.”

His Eminence said that the judiciary has the authority to ensure justice: “[Ensuring justice] will revive human rights, justice, and security. The implementation of these rights is the aim of an Islamic state. The judiciary has the authority to bring criminals and the abusers and violators of national law to account for their crimes in order to impose order, justice, progress and it affirms the authority and sovereignty of the Islamic system.”

Ayatollah Ka’bi explained that one of the expressions of justice is decisive legal action to tackle economic corruption. “Decisive legal action allows for the achievement of the rule of law, justice, and the growth of the rule of law and it guarantees the rights of the nation.”

He emphasized that no judicial action must be set aside under the pretext of promoting and protecting investors: “Contrary to the assertions promoted by some individuals, judicial action against the perpetrators of corruption and fraud is not a barrier to the growth and development of foreign and domestic investment.”

Ayatollah Ka’bi stated that investment in different sectors should be accomplished according to legal routes: “Circumventing the law, taking bribes, money laundering, monopolizing and hording profit, receiving special privileges, and allowing non-judicial approaches, are some the factors that cause corruption and hinder economic progress.”
