Rasa News Agency - Ayatollah Gholam-Reza Dahshat (1937-2014), one of the great teachers and scholars of the Islamic Seminary of Khorasan, replied to the call of his Lord and passed away in the holy city of Mashhad at noontime on May 17, 2014. He had been suffering from a liver disease.
His son, Hujjat al-Islam Mortaza Dahshat, confirmed the sad news in a statement released: “He passed away at noon time at Imam Reza (A) Hospital.”
Before the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Dahshat was a close companion and study partner of Ayatollah Khamenei. He stood beside him in the struggle to overthrow the corrupt Pahlavi monarchy and establish an Islamic Republic.
After the success of the Islamic Revolution, he continued on the path of Imam Khomeini. He was present on the warfront in the struggle against imperialism in the Imposed War (Iran-Iraq War). He continued his services to the Islamic Revolution by engaging in preaching and teaching. He was known as a prominent and reknowned speaker in Mashhad. A great model of Islamic ethical beliefs, he engaged himself in charitable works and public service. His Eminence had an important role in establishment of more than 20 charitable institutions in the holy city of Mashhad.
