Rasa News Agency reports - Ayatollah Sayyed Hashem Hoseini-Bushehri, the director of the Islamic Seminaries in Iran, has sent a message of condolences to the people of Afghanistan in regards to the tragic landslides in the Islamic country’s north-eastern Badakhshan province.

On May 2, 2014, a pair of landslides occurred in the remote Argo District of Badakhshan province. The death toll is still uncertain, with the number of deaths varying from 350 to 2,700. Around 300 houses were buried and over 14,000 were affected. Rescuers responding to the initial landslide were struck by a second mudslide, which hampered rescue efforts.

“Who, when a misfortune befalls them, say: Surely we are God’s and to Him we shall surely return.” [Holy Quran 2:156]

We in the Islamic seminaries have been deeply saddened by the heartbreaking news of the loss of life of many loved ones as a result of the tragic landslides which occurred in the province of Badakhshan, in the Islamic country of Afghanistan.
