Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi, yesterday, spoke to a gathering of teachers from an institute specializing in the different Islamic schools of thought. Highlighting the importance of their work, he stated: “Your objective is vast, rich and extensive and it deserves attention and if it is worked upon, it would result in a lot of fruits.”
“If we take a look at Syria, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Pakistan, Iraq and Afghanistan, we will see that the Muslims are at each other’s throat as a part of the conspiracy of the arrogant powers.”
Expressing his concern about the sad state that the Muslim world is in, his eminence stated: “Unfortunately, statements are made about one another and as a result the flames of disunity are flamed further. Today books are being published that are full of lies and insults towards the followers of the school of the Ahlul-Bayt (A).”
The Ayatollah stated: “We must express our beliefs with clarity and we also have an expectation from them to listen to our beliefs from us rather than from our enemies.”
His eminence explained how the current situation is aiding those who are against Islam. He said: “Today the Zionist regime finds itself in a realm of safety and they are making the most of Muslims fighting with other Muslims and internal conflict within the Islam world. Why should we not wake up in such circumstance?”
Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi finished his discussion with emphasising the need to answer doubts which are created but he explained this should be done with the understanding of the time we find ourselves in. He concluded: “One of the most important issues that you must be attentive to is becoming a scholar who is with the times and is aware about new questions being raised with the ability to answer them.”
