Rasa News Agency reports - Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei has offered his condolences to Mamousta Hessamoddin Mojtahedi, the Representative of the Assembly of Experts and a prominent Sunni prayer leader of the city of Sanandaj, the capital of Iran’s western Kordestan province. Most Kurds are Sunnis, whereas most other Iranians belong to the Shi’ite school of thought.

Mojtahedi was a prominent Sunni voice who called for Shi’ite-Sunni unity among Muslims and had previously said that “through unity and rapprochement all the threats and hatched plots can be turned to opportunity.”

Below is Ayatollah Khamenei’s message of condolence:

In the Name of God, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful,

I offer my deepest condolences to the pious and revolutionary people of the province of Kordestan and their respectable families on the passing of a peacemaking and accomplished scholar, Mamousta Hessamoddin Mojtahedi, one of the great scholars from the Shafi’i school of thought, the Representative of the Assembly of Experts of the Leadership, and the Sunni Friday Prayers Leader of Sanandaj.

This elderly servant, under whom many of the scholars of the area studied, was a loyal follower of the revolutionary message of Muslim unity and sought to united the various Muslim sects, was engaged in spiritual duties.

I pray to the Almighty for His mercy and forgiveness,

Sayyed Ali Khamenei
