Rasa - The Iraqi ambassador to Iran has met with a number of sources of emulation and senior scholars while visiting the holy city of Qom.

Rasa News Agency reports - Today, Mohammad Majid al-Shaykh, the Iraqi ambassador to Iran, met with several sources of emulation (maraja’ taqlid) and senior scholars in the holy city of Qom.

For his first scheduled program in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ambassador al-Shaykh met with Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi at Madrassah Imam Sajjad (A).

During the meeting, the Iraqi ambassador conveyed greetings to the sources of emulation and presented a report on the situation of Iraq.

The purpose of his visit to the holy city of Qom was to make a pilgrimage to Lady Fatimah al-Ma’soumah and to benefit from the guidance of the sources of emulation and scholars there.

The ambassador described the similarities between Iran and Iraq and noted that every year citizens from both countries make pilgrimages to the respective holy sites in Iran and Iraq.

Ambassador al-Shaykh pointed to the parliamentary elections in Iraq as proof that Iraq was on the path to democracy and said that the electoral process is also improving.

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi also noted the similarities between the two countries and stressed upon the necessity of vigilance among the politicians, scholars and the countries’ various groups in the face of the enemies’ plots.

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi stressed that the Takfiris and other terrorist groups are a grave threat to Islam, Muslims and humanity and he emphasized the need to deal seriously with these groups.

Ambassador al-Shaykh also planned to meet with Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi-Golpaygani while visiting Qom. He also intended to meet Grand Ayatollahs Vahid Khorasani and Seyyed Mahmoud Hashemi-Shahroudi as well as several other Iraqi scholars living and studying in Holy Qom.
