Rasa News Agency reports - The Tunisian daily, ash-Shuruq, has written an article entitled "Americans to Hezbollah: Withdraw from Syria Instead of Foreign Fighters." It is said in the article that informed Lebanese political sources have announced that Riyadh and Washington have suggested that with the withdrawal of Hezbollah forces from Syria, all Saudi-allied foreign fighters in Syria, as well as those in Iraq, will leave.
Based on these claims, some officials in the
Persian Gulf states have urged Hezbollah to agree to this plan in meetings with those near to the Hezbollah leadership including Brigadier Abbas Ibrahim.
According to the report, these efforts are in tandem with a plan under the supervision of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to create convergence between
Saudi Arabia and Iran, which is under the shadow of a change of approach in the region by Saudi embassies and their efforts to bring back Saudi fighters from the Syrian battlefield. The Russians want the Saudis to command their allies in Lebanon to act according this concern which are in accordance to Saudi and other Arab nations’ similar commitments to withdraw their forces from Syria.
In this regard, some sources on this issue, such as al-Mustaqbal, have claimed that Fouad Siniora, the ex-Prime Minister of
Lebanon, had a private meeting with Saudi diplomats, including the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia in Lebanon, Ali al-Asiri. They say that their information shows that within Hezbollah there is an ongoing strategy change in regards to Syria and a willingness within the resistance for dialogue.
