Rasa News Agency reports - Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Javad Nour-Mousavi, the official responsible for the ceremony honouring Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Fazel Lankarani (RA) has told Rasa News Agency that “His Eminence, Ayatollah Fazel Lankarani, was a personality who was completely perfect in all aspects.”

During his life, he was active in many important fields, including his support of Imam Ruhollah Khomeini (RA), as well as writing many important works on a multitude of Islamic subjects as well as teaching and training the future scholars of Islam.

Ayatollah Lankarani had an essential role in announcing the marja’iyyat of Imam Khomeini (RA). It was the year 1342 (1963 CE) when a group of teachers from the Islamic Seminary, which Ayatollah Lankarani headed, announced the marja’iyyat of Imam Khomeini (RA) with a list of signatures of the senior scholars verifying him as “source of emulation.”

From the beginning of the political and social struggle and defiance of Imam Khomeini against the oppression, corruption and tyrannical government of the Pahlavi dynasty in

Iran, Ayatollah Lankarani was one of the helpers and supporters of the Imam. He believed Imam Khomeini was a highly knowledgeable and spiritual person at a time when many people considered him as only a political personality. Throughout his life, Ayatollah Lankarani persevered to enlighten the world on Imam Khomeini’s merits. He was active in every movement that the defenders of Islam took against the Shah.

After the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Ayatollah Lankarani continued to play an important role along side Imam Khomeini and continued his support of the Islamic Republic and Wilayat al-Faqih under the leadership of Imam Khamenei.

A ceremony commemorating the late Ayatollah Lankarani will be held on April 3, 2014, the seventh anniversary of his death. It will be attended by many important dignitaries, including sources of emulation, seminary scholars, and members of the Majles, who will gather to listen to a sermon from Hujjat al-Islam Salehi-Khansari in Masjed-e A’zam in the holy city of Qom.

Born in 1931, Ayatollah Lankarani passed away on June 17, 2007.
