RNA – The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, hailed Afghan political groups for agreeing to a national unity government as he met Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah in Tehran on Tuesday.

“God willing, the national unity government will take a realistic form because the cure to Afghanistan’s problems lies in forging genuine unity among communities and state officials,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The Leader said Iran “views security, peace and progress in Afghanistan as its own.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is standing by Afghanistan and hosting about 3 million of its nationals.”

The Leader also criticized efforts to sideline Afghan Mujahedin who were key to the eviction of Soviet occupiers and ouster of the Taliban regime in the country.

“Isolating Mujahedin under such titles as warlords is a wrong policy. In any country subject to military invasion and widespread sedition, the people should be ready to defend their state with a spirit of Jihad,” the Leader said.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the lack of defense preparedness paves the way for the intervention of and entry of foreign forces.

“We saw how many people were killed by the Americans who also caused enormous damage and are not leaving (Afghanistan) alone yet,” the Leader added.

Ayatollah Khamenei also applauded the “spirit of resistance among the Afghan people against occupation and aggression by British and Soviet forces in the past and the Americans in recent years."

“The spirit of resistance and religious devotion among the Afghan people is very deep and known in history so that no occupier has survived in Afghanistan,” the Leader said, Press TV reported.
