RNA – During his Friday prayer sermon delivered to a large and fervent crowd of believers in the Iraqi city of Karbala, Hujjat al-Islam Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbala’i referred to the role of martyrs in the fight against terrorism and the protection of Iraq from the various dangers it faces, saying: “The blood of the martyrs safeguards the Iraqi people, its sanctities, Islamic unity and confronts the threat of terrorism.”

The representative of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani said that martyrs have a lofty status in Islam and added that supporting the families of the martyrs and their children is a form of respect and shows loyalty to their pure souls.

“Paying attention to the families of the martyrs is a great responsibility upon all, especially the government, institutions, organizations, charities and humanity,” he said.

In another part of his sermon, His Eminence pointed to the courage of the warriors in the fight against terrorism, noting that the warriors on the battlefield have been able to cleanse much of the territories occupied by ISIL in Iraq’s vast western province of al-Anbar due to their courage and dedication.

Hujjat al-Islam al-Karbala’i urged all political groups and parties that are important for the future of Iraq to work together within the framework of the National Plan to liberate the remaining areas under ISIL occupation.

Karbala’s Friday prayer leader emphasized the importance of resisting the international and regional initiatives aimed at dividing Iraq into three independent countries, saying that the enemies seek the eventual disintegration of the country.

His Eminence stressed that regional countries should seek their own interests and benefits and not Iraq’s interests and benefits as the interests of Iraq do not necessarily coincide with their interests.

He added that the recent Turkish military incursion into Iraq and their occupation of the north of the country, as well as the formation of a new coalition led by Saudi Arabia with several countries, has sparked concern in Baghdad.

In conclusion, Hujjat al-Islam Karbala’i stressed that the liberation of Iraq and its victory over Takfiri terrorism is not possible except through the efforts of the Iraqi people. He said the current crisis facing the war-torn country can only end if the people of the country place national interests over their personal and partisan interests.
