RNA – Grand Ayatollah Bashir al-Najafi, a Najaf-based source of emulation, has met with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Haydar al-Abadi, where he expressed deep concern over the suffering and problems facing the Iraqi people, plus the widespread corruption in the government and the presence of Takfiri terrorists in Iraq.
He called on the government to take stricter measures to strengthen security in the war-torn country.
His Eminence pointed out that the Iraqi government must respect and honour the heroes of the country’s security forces and the Popular Mobilization Forces because “they represent the dignity of Iraq.”
Ayatollah al-Najafi added that support for the country’s warriors is considered one of the most important tasks of the Iraqi government.
In regard to government corruption, the Indian-born source of emulation stressed that he expects the judiciary to harshly deal those involved in corruption with the full force of the law and to implement the Prime Minister’s reform plan as soon as possible.
The remarks came a week after the Iraqi parliament voted unanimously to bar al-Abadi’s administration from implementing, without its approval, key reforms envisioned in a comprehensive plan aimed at fighting corruption and reducing government costs in the Middle Eastern country.
Some of al-Abadi’s proposed changes to the country’s political system have been implemented since they were overwhelmingly approved by the Iraqi legislature back in August, but others appear to have stalled.
During the meeting, al-Abadi also presented Ayatollah al-Najafi with a report on the political and security developments made in Iraq and stressed on the important role of the Najaf-based Shi’a sources of emulation in protecting Iraq.
