RNA – Speaking on the night of Ashura, Hujjat al-Islam Mojtaba Zonnour, the secretary of the Congress of Martyrs and Clerics, stated that the lessons from the tragedy of Karbala are not limited to a specific time, but that Imam Husayn’s martyrdom has provided an everlasting message for all eras, including that we must resist oppression and stand up to the arrogant powers.
In regard to this stance, the political scientist stressed that the late Imam Ruhollah Khomeini stated that our problem is with the American people, but the problem of the Islamic Republic government is with the tyrannical nature of the American government.
“As long as this ‘Yazidi nature’ exists in the arrogant powers, the message of Karbala and the commandment of the movement of Imam Husayn applies to us law forever and we will never surrender to the United States. How is compromise with the arrogant United States consistent with the movement of Imam Husayn?” he said.
Hujjat al-Islam Zonnour explained that the lessons of Karbala and history repeats itself. Imam Husayn fought against the Umayyad Dynasty, and today, we are fighting against the arrogant Western powers.
He added that the arrogant front that Muslims are currently facing is interconnected, explaining that if we shake hands with [American president] Barack Obama, the hand of Obama is in the place of the House of Saud who are responsible for the massacre of the innocent people of Yemen and Bahrain. “This person whose hand we shake has a sword in his other hand which he thrusts into the hearts of Muslims,” he said.
He pointed out the pros and cons of the JCPOA, saying that Ayatollah Khamenei has shown his expertise in crisis management and has lead two opposing sides toward a single coherent goal. On one hand, he called on the Iranian government to accept criticism interests and to observe the red lines of the sacred Islamic system and national interests and not to suppress those who criticize the agreement but on the other hand, he said criticism must be fair and not be destructive.
