RNA – Speaking on Iran's Radio Ma’aref’s, Hujjat al-Islam Javad Mohaddesi, a professor in the Islamic Seminary of Qom, stated that “Ziyarat Ashura” is a charter to expresses one’s support of the front of truth and to express ones hatred of the front of falsehood, adding that in tragedy of Ashura, the ignorance and values of the pre-Islamic era were abrogated by an Islamic revival and a return of Islamic values.

Ziyarat Ashura is a sacred tradition and salutation to the martyrs of Karbala, who sacrificed their life along with that of Imam Husayn for the sake of Islam.

His Eminence explained the statement in Ziyarat Ashura: “[Oh Husayn!] May God curse the people who slew you. May God curse those who paved the way for them to do so and who made possible for them to fight against you. I repudiate them in the presence of God and You and I repudiate their devotees, followers, and loyalists,” saying that during the event of Karbala three streams were affected:

1) Those who laid the foundation for injustice and oppression against the Ahlul-Bayt.

2) Those who were the followers and companions of the armies of oppression and injustice.

3) Those who were supported the oppressors or were silent in the face of oppression.

The Iranian scholar added that in the section of Ziyarat Ashura quoted above, we announce our detachment and distance from these three groups who laid the foundation for the martyrdom of Imam Husayn, his family and companions in the desert of Karbala.

Interpreting the statement: “[Oh Husayn!] I am at peace with those who are at peace with you and I am at war against those who have fought against you up to the Resurrection Day,” Hujjat al-Islam Mohaddesi said the message of this part of Ziyarat Ashura is that a believing person must not be indifferent toward the streams of oppression and justice in society and must choose the correct position in regard to each stream.

The professor in the Islamic Seminary of Qom added that tawalla, or loving the Ahlul-Bayt, and tabarra, disassociation from the enemies of God, Muhammad and the Ahlul-Bayt, are the fundamental pillars of Islam and that in a number of narrations from the Ahlul-Bayt it is stated that religion is nothing without the love of the Infallible Imams and hatred of their enemies.

Hujjat al-Islam Mohaddesi said that in the above statement from Ziyarat Ashura, we announce our support and friendship for every school and movement which follows of the Ahlul-Bayt and we announce our hatred toward every group which is the enemy of the Infallible Imams.

He emphasized that confrontation between the front of truth and the front of falsehood will continue until the Day of Judgement, thus in the above part of Ziyarat Ashura, we announce our love for the Ahlul-Bayt and our hatred for their enemies until the Day of Judgement.

His Eminence stated in the rest of Ziyarat Ashura, examples of those who have oppressed the Ahlul-Bayt and had a role in the tragedy of Karbala are noted. “Thus, we send curses upon the family of Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad (ibn Marjanah), the Umayyad dynasty, Umar ibn Sa'd and Shimr ibn Dhil-Jawshan,” he said.

Hujjat al-Islam Mohaddesi said that the concepts of tawalla and tabarra in Shi’ism are manifested in Ziyarat Ashura, adding that in this salutation we announce our innocence and hatred for the enemies of Ahlul-Bayt and announce our cooperation with the companions of the Infallible Imams.
