RNA - "The United Nations is responsible for protecting the lives of Shia Muslims in the two major Shia cities of al-Fu'ah and Kufriya in Syria against the terrorist threats," Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Sa'id al-Hakim stated in a telephone conversation with Ján Kubiš, the Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

He also wished for Mr. Kubiš to express the dire and catastrophic situation of the region to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Ayatollah al-Hakim emphasised that the ongoing genocide of Shia Muslims at the hands of the terrorists needs to be seriously considered by the United Nations.

The cities of al-Fu'ah and Kufriya have been under siege by the terrorist takfiri group Jabhat al-Nusrah for several months. The siege began after terrorists were able to seize the city of Idlib and have entirely cut all travel routes in and out of these two cities.
