Rasa - Ayatollah Abolqassem Khaz’ali, a member of Iran’s Assembly of Experts, passed away at the age of 90 in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

RNA - The office of Ayatollah Khaz’ali confirmed his death and said that the funeral’s schedule will be announced.

 

After Ayatollah Khaz’ali was transferred from hospital to his home as per his doctors’ order, he passed away on Wednesday morning, an official at the office told the Tasnim News Agency.

 

Ayatollah Khaz’ali, who was born on 21 March 1925, was a prominent Shiite cleric.

 

Before the victory of Islamic Revolution in 1979, he was one of the strongest challengers of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, the then ruler, and was taken to jail several times.

 

The Assembly of Experts is a high-ranking body of experts which elects and oversees the activities of the leader of the Islamic Revolution.
