RNA - "Two Russian planes arrived today at the Latakia Martyr Bassil al-Assad international airport carrying 80 tonnes of humanitarian aid provided by Russia," Russian agencies reported on Saturday.

Russia's Defense Ministry said earlier military cargo planes have taken to Syria all of the things needed to set up a tent camp for more than 1,000 refugees.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that Russia is airlifting weapons to Syria, a longtime ally, and Russian servicemen are training the Syrian army on how to use them.

He has also said planes flying to Latakia carry humanitarian aid, but has given no specifics.

Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said Saturday the humanitarian aid included materials for setting up a tent camp, including beds, mattresses, stoves, water cisterns and food.
