RNA – The Association of Scholars of Jabal Amel in southern Lebanon has issued a statement on the role of Imam Musa al-Sadr in the formation of the Islamic Resistance against the Zionist regime.

The Shi’a group of scholars emphasized the programs that Imam al-Sadr established to encourage proximity between the multitude of religions, sects and ideologies in Lebanon.

He did not differentiate between the various elements which make up the Lebanese people and pursued ecumenism and peaceful relations between these elements.

The statement from the Association of Scholars of Jabal Amel said the enemies have been engaged in subversive activities on both the internal and external fronts and added that Lebanon faces threats from all sides. Lebanon’s enemies have long sought to promote divisiveness and sedition in the country. The increased insight in areas of priority was the result of the thought of Imam Musa al-Sadr and was much needed in the country.

In regard to the kidnapping of this revered Iranian-Lebanese religious leader, the Association stated that the Arabs who collaborated with foreign intelligence agencies were complicit in the kidnapping of Imam Musa as were those who were silent about these crimes.

On August 25, 1978, Imam Musa and his two companions, Shaykh Muhammad Ya’qoub and journalist Abbas Badreddin, departed for Libya to meet with government officials. The visit was reportedly paid upon the invitation of then Libyan ruler Mu’ammar al-Qadhafi. The three were seen lastly on 31 August. They were never heard from again.

The statement stressed upon the importance of the issue of the abduction of Imam al-Sadr to Lebanon and added the events surrounding his disappearance must be pursued. “The people of Lebanon are still hoping that they can discover the whereabouts of Imam Musa al-Sadr with divine help and benefit from his valuable knowledge,” they said.
