RNA – In an exclusive interview with Rasa News Agency, Hujjat al-Islam Ahmad Salek-Kashani, the president of the Iranian parliament’s Cultural Commission, referred to last weeks’ reopening of the British embassy in Tehran, saying that said the United Kingdom is an “evil and wily fox” who has sought to compromise with various Iranian governments over the past 100 years to steel Iran’s assets.

“This colonialist power has created dozens of seditious movements in Iran, including the Baha’i sect, in order to destroy Islam,” he said.

Hujjat al-Islam Salek added that the global superpowers, like the UK, have realized that their presence on the world scene depends on their relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran, therefore they seek to strengthen their relationship with Iran.

His Eminence referred to the history of British interference in Iran, saying that the reality of their “very evil record” is that the reopening of the British embassy in Tehran "paves the way for dire consequences for Iran and the further promotion of sedition in the future."

“After Iran’s 2009 elections, more than 200 British agents who worked for the embassy were directly involved in provoking riots and sedition and guiding the Green Movement. They are responsible for serious crimes in our country,” he explained.

Hujjat al-Islam Salek said that from the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the UK is a bitter enemy and a member of the ‘global arrogance.’

He added that the presence of the British embassy in Iran will lead to the UK’s influence in Iranian politics and in sensitive cultural and economic issues.

The representative of Esfahan in the Islamic Consultative Assembly explained that now the British embassy is currently only operating at the level of chargé d’affaires, the lowest level in diplomatic affairs, and not at the level of ambassador, although this is a prelude to their influence in Iran.

The Iranian cleric explained that the traits of deceit and treachery are inherent in this colonist power. “It has been said that they are playing with words but we should not be deceived by them. We completely regret that the British embassy has been reopened,” he warned.

Hujjat al-Islam Salek explained that perhaps the British see the reopening of their embassy in Iran as a type of victory as they have found a way to enter Iran.

“From Iran’s perspective, this is not a victory because the role of a colonial power has increased in our nation,” he said.

In response to whether the practical actions of the representatives of the Iranian parliament are responsible for the reopening of the British Embassy, His Eminence said the National Security Council should decide on this issue because they are experts on the matter.

The president of the parliament’s Cultural Commission added that the National Security Council must present its decision to the parliament on the reopening of the British Embassy as a think tank with the expectation that after it goes to the National Security Council, it will create momentum.
