RNA – Speaking during his first class of the new academic term in the Islamic Seminary of Najaf, Grand Ayatollah Muhammad-Ishaq al-Fayyadh, one the sources of emulation based in the Iraqi holy city has remarked on the popular protests calling for reform in the strife-torn Arab country.

His Eminence stated that any protest which is supported by or dependent on foreigners is forbidden by Islamic law.

On August 11, the Iraqi parliament unanimously approved Prime Minister Haydar al-Abadi’s proposals aimed at uprooting corruption and reducing government costs.

This act came after a call by Iraq’s highest-ranking Shi’ite authority, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, who had demanded changes in the judiciary and nearly three weeks of popular protests and rallies in a number of cities against alleged graft among government officials and the shortage of electricity and water.

Although scholars and politicians have announced their support for the popular protests, there has been chaos and illegal acts in several cities by some protestors which have likely been provoked by the presence of foreign mercenaries, and they condemned these acts.
