RNA – Speaking during a ceremony in Beirut to commemorate one of Hezbollah’s martyrs from the village of al-Khidhr, Hujjat al-Islam Mohammad Yazbek, the head of the religious council of Hezbollah, expressed his satisfaction over the arrest of Ahmad al-Assir, an infamous Salafi cleric and terrorist, who was detained on Beirut International Airport on August 15 while trying to leave the country for Nigeria via Cairo in disguise.
al-Assir rose to prominence in 2011 with the outbreak of the foreign-backed war in Syria. He urged his supporters to join Takfiri terrorist groups operating in Syria and became an outspoken critic of the Shi’a Hezbollah resistance group.
Hujjat al-Islam Yazbek demanded the arrest of all the leaders of sedition and terrorism in the country and stressed that the Lebanese security forces, along with the support of the people, should not disregard the importance of arresting of the leaders of terrorist groups.
His Eminence emphasized the expansion of security in Lebanon, saying: “The security forces seek to establish security and protect all people in Lebanon and rumours over the support of specific individuals or parties are unfounded and incorrect.”
The Lebanese Shi’a cleric stressed that Lebanon, with the support and sacrifice of its fighters in the face of the current dangers and crises, has been preserved.
