RNA – Ayatollah Sayyed Hashem Hoseyni-Bushehri has met with Muhammad Majid al-Shaykh, the Iraqi ambassador to Iran, at the Iranian Seminaries Management Centre.
Ayatollah Bushehri expressed hope that the Iraqi government will take broad steps in building the mutual interests between the two countries in the political, social, cultural and economic fields.
His Eminence considered the holy shrine of Imam Husayn (A) in Karbala and the Islamic Seminary of Najaf as areas of mutual interest for the two countries, stressing that the relationship between Iran and Iraq should be greater and stronger.
The director of Iranian Seminaries stated that there is a sense of brotherhood, friendship and love between the two neighbouring countries and added that during his Friday prayers’ sermons he always emphasizes that Iranians share in the joys and sufferings of the Iraqi people.
Ayatollah Bushehri said that in contrast to the bitterness of the Saddam era, Iraq and Iran are currently enjoying an era of pleasant harmony and solidarity and encouraged the Iraqi government to strive to strengthen their harmonious relationship and stated that Iran must also strive in this era.
The renowned Iranian scholar said any aggression or attack against Iraq is considered an aggression against Iran as well. “The sources of emulation and the Iranian government will stand beside [Iraq] with all their power and we hope to celebrate your victory [against these aggressors].”
The member of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom said that according to the changed situation in the region, there is a good chance that the countries in the region will began a period of peaceful coexistence and friendly relations with the Islamic Republic.
He added that the regional discourses of Islamophobia, Shiaphobia and Iranophobia, which are unfortunately divisive plots by our enemies, will be destroyed and we will witness the splendour and glory of Islam as we did in the past.
In conclusion, His Eminence told Ambassador al-Shaykh: “We hope that with your efforts we will witness the unity of Iraq and that instead of following the enemies plots, our neighbouring countries will think about how they can help each other so they can stand up to the enemies.”
