RNA – Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Ali Fadhlullah, the Friday prayers’ leader of Beirut pointed to the numerous crises in Iraq at various levels, especially in the security, social and economic fields and put forward possible solutions to address the problems facing Iraqi society.

He explained that the only way out of the current crisis in the country is for Iraqis to unite, in the literal sense of the word. He added that this will prevent “the infiltration of opportunists” and the spread of corruption.

Sheikh Fadhlullah made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation headed by the head of the Hammurabi Strategic Research Centre in Iraq. He was accompanied by Iraqi intellectuals Dr. Abdul-Husayn Sha’ban and Dr. Shirzad Amin al-Najjar.

His Eminence added that Iraqi reforms cannot not proceed as long as political reform projects are not approved by the Iraqi administrative structure. Also, Iraqi officials should strive toward implementing these reforms.

The renowned Lebanese cleric noted Iraq’s great national and societal assets and explained that the reforms of the Iraqi political structure must be implemented as soon as possible to prevent the loss of these national assets. Through the correct use of the country’s assets, we can imagine an advanced and secure Iraq where people live in comfort.

Hujjat al-Islam Fadhlullah stated that Iraq suffers from sectarian, tribal and ethnic-based discrimination and said: “The key to Iraq’s victory is to overcome these religious differences and ethnic and tribal tensions which the country’s enemies abuse and misuse in order to implement their evil plots.”

He stressed that reform in Iraq will lead to the end of the rampant corruption and waste in the country and prevent the allocation of power on sectarian and partisan lines.

At the end of the meeting, the Friday prayers’ leader of Beirut stressed that equality, fraternity and the inalienable right to live with dignity and without sectarian discrimination are the inalienable rights of the Iraqi people. He also prayed to God Almighty to resolve the current problems facing the country and liberate it from the “clutches of the mercenaries of sedition.”
