RNA – Grand Ayatollah Bashir al-Najafi, one of the most prominent sources of emulation in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf, has announced his support for Iraqi Prime Minister Haydar al-Abadi’s reform plan.
In the statement, the cleric said that the reforms that Prime Minister al-Abadi has proposed are the correct way to fight corruption from the perspective of religion and Iraqi national laws.
Ayatollah al-Najafi stated that these reforms were in the interest of Iraq and called on ministers, members of parliament and politicians in this country to cooperate with the Prime Minister.
His Eminence explained that the current situation facing Iraq is to the detriment of the country and said the reforms would further serve Iraq and are the correct way to achieve security and stability in the country.
Prime Minister al-Abadi had issued a decree which scraps the posts of three vice presidential posts as well as the offices of three deputy prime ministers. He said that these decisions are in line with reforms in the country due to the request of the sources of emulation and the people of the country.
Iraqi parliament speaker Salim al-Jubouri said Tuesday that Iraqi lawmakers had “unanimously approved” the plan, with 297 MPs in the 328-member chamber in attendance.
