RNA – In an exclusive interview with Rasa News Agency’s parliamentary correspondent, Sayyed Baqer Hoseyni referred to Tuesday’s parliamentary meeting with Dr. Mohammad-Javad Zarif, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The secretary of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament stated that in a report to the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majles), Dr Zarif must solve the ambiguities in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). “However,” he said, “The concerns of some members of parliament are valid, and just as we didn’t trust the Americans in the past, today we still cannot trust them.”

He explained that so far, the MP’s only concerns over the text of the document has been the inspections of Iran’s military facilities and the country’s missiles. They have explained that the discussion of the limitations on missiles is associated with missiles which are capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry says UN Security Council Resolution 2231 does not cover the Islamic Republic’s military capabilities including its ballistic missiles.

“However, it is known that since the beginning, we have not sought these weapons and we will never seek them,” Hoseyni stressed in reference to the fatwa (decree) issued by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, which states that Iran opposes acquisition, production, stockpiling and use of nuclear weapons as it is against Islamic law.

Hoseyni said that the text of the JCPOA will also be scrutinized in parliament. “Wherever the MP’s see a violation of Iran’s ‘red lines’ over this agreement, they can submit their opinions,” he said.

Dr. Zarif and Ali-Akbar Salehi, the head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran attended the open session of the Iranian parliament on Tuesday, July 21 where they presented a report on the negotiations with the P5+1 and explained the text of the JCPOA and the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorses the JCPOA.
