Rasa – The Friday prayers’ leader of Beirut emphasized the importance of the fight against sectarianism in Lebanon and reiterated that the Lebanese people should be vigilant in the face of the growth of ethnic and religious dissention.

RNA – Speaking at a iftar ceremony at the “L’Arc” restaurant in the southern Lebanese city of al-Ghaziyeh, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Ali Fadhlullah, the Friday prayers’ leader of Beirut, spoke of the current situation in Lebanon and said that the Lebanese people want their government to be more precise and stronger carrying out their responsibilities in regard to security, social, health and human services.

 

“We appreciate the governments’ enthusiasm in providing aid to the disadvantaged groups among Lebanese society,” he said.

 

The renowned scholar also stressed that a popular government must not rule on the basis of sectarian, ethnic or religious issues, especially in such a religiously diverse country such as Lebanon.

 

Hujjat al-Islam Fadhlullah emphasized that the government must pay attention to public peace and security and warned against the influence of ethnic and religious dissention in Lebanon warned.

 

He pointed out that the Lebanese people should be careful of those who seek to create ethnic or religious discord among the citizens of Lebanon.

 

Hujjat al-Islam Fadhlullah added that the spirit of unity and pluralism and putting differences aside will help the government to deal with the various problems and crises facing Lebanon.

 

“If we allow rumours to spread among us, our diversity will longer be a blessing, but will become a curse... we must not give the interests of our sectarian or political allegiance priority,” he said.
