RNA – Speaking at an iftar dinner hosted by the Iranian embassy in Iraq in honour of the political representatives of Kurdish, Shabak and Turkmen Iraqis, Shaykh Muhammad Taqi al-Mawla, a Turkmen member of the Iraqi parliament, thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its support of the Iraqi people in their fight against the Takfiri terrorist group, ISIL.

The member of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq stated that under the authoritarian Ba’thist regime, the Iraqi government severely oppressed the mainly Shi’a Turkmen people of northern Iraq as part of a plan to exterminate them.

“During this period, there was much war and conflict and many homes, land and property were abandoned and many Iraqi Turkmen were martyred. The Turkmen were at the forefront of those Iraqis who made enormous sacrifices for their country. They became one of the most marginalized and displaced people in the world,” al-Mawla said referring to the 1986–1989 al-Anfal Campaign.

In response to al-Mawla’s gratitude, Hoseyn Danaeifar, Iran’s ambassador to Iraq, stressed Iran’s support for the war-torn country, saying that his country supports Iraqi unity and attaches great importance to its territorial integrity. Iran also cherishes its strong relationship with Iraqi government and with the Iraqi people.

Danaeifar emphasized that Iran considers the ISIL phenomenon as an issue which was introduced into Iraq to destroy the country. “It has been proven that ISIL is a product of the Israeli and American intelligence industries. They have no mission but to tarnish and distort the image of Islam,” he said.

He added that is necessary to fight terrorism and stressed that the ISIL terrorist phenomenon will be defeated soon.
