RNA – Speaking during his series of televised lectures broadcast during Ramadan, Grand Ayatollah Hoseyn Nouri-Hamadani stated that in Nahj al-Balaghah (Peak of Eloquence), Imam Ali (A) referred to resurrection and the hereafter and the issue of the resurrection of the dead and said, “Don’t be one of those who have accomplished good deeds [but] hope for heaven and eternal happiness. Never delay your repentance with distant aspirations [to repent in the future].”
Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani emphasized the need for believers to at least make use of the Nights of Power during the holy month of Ramadan, saying that on these nights of this blessed month, God opens the doors of divine mercy.
According to some traditions referring to this night, the fate of human beings is determined. “Therefore, we should use this night to repent and give our full attention to God in worship,” he said.
He said that resurrection and judgement are realities of this world, adding that resurrection, life after death, the al-sirat bridge, heaven and hell are all realities that lie before us. “Thus, we must prepare for this great Day of Resurrection which will be established before we enter the afterlife,” he said.
The revered source of emulation stated that the murder of innocent children in the modern “Era of Ignorance,” saying: “On the resurrection, God will question the girls who were buried alive during an the previous [pre-Islamic] Era of Ignorance and the abortion and the killing of innocent children in the [present] modern Era of Ignorance.”
Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani noted that on the Day of Reckoning the books noting all human actions will be opened and read and man will be divided into two groups – those who were good and those who were bad. The sky will be stripped of its place and the fire of hell will be set ablaze and heaven will come near and the people will be watching all these events.
His Eminence explained that in the hereafter, human actions will be personified. All of one’s good deeds and intentions will be seen as blessings and all of one’s evil deeds and intentions will be embodied as punishments in the hellfire.
“This is referred to in the Quranic chapter ‘al-Zalzalah’ (‘The Quake’) which states that the result of all actions and their consequences will be visualized on the Day of Judgement,” His Eminence said.
