RNA - "Iran's crushing response is waiting for the US military threats that will make them filled with remorse… ," Brigadier General Jazzayeri said, addressing a ceremony marking the anniversary of the shooting down of an Iranian passenger plane by the US in 1988.
The Iranian passenger jet Airbus 655 that was flying from Bandar Abbas, Iran to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, on July 3 1988, with 290 passengers onboard was shot down by the American USS Vincennes missile cruiser. All the passengers lost their lives with the remaining of their bodies floating on the Persian Gulf waters.
Brigadier General Jazzayeri pointed to the record of US animosity towards Iran and shooting down of the Iranian passenger plane, and said, "The US crimes against Iran, including attacking the country's passenger plane on July 3 1988 had a special meaning and it carried the message that the White House rulers will commit any crime even victimizing innocent women and children to achieve their goals."
In May, the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces in a statement underlined intelligence superiority over enemies' moves in the region, and warned that any hostile act against the country will face a crushing response.
Using the invaluable experiences of the 8-year Iraqi-imposed war against Iran (1980-1988) and the commandership of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the Iranian Armed Forces "will give a proper and crushing response to any threat, given their intelligence superiority over the enemy front's situation and moves", the statement said.
It also described developing capacity for the country's growing defensive production and development of Iran's deterrence power as the Armed Forces' main goal.
The statement said under such conditions that the country is facing a sensitive situation, there is no doubt that the key weapon of unity and sympathy between the government and the nation would yield valuable and decisive results.
Also in May, the Iranian Defense Ministry underlined that the country's Armed Forces would give a strong and decisive response to the slightest threats by the enemies.
In a statement issued on the threshold of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Day in Iran, the defense ministry described the IRGC as the Islamic Revolution and the Iranian nation's strategic weapon and superior potential for foiling the scenarios hatched by the enemies, the hegemonic system and the Zionists.
The statement ensured that the defense ministry "along with other Armed Forces defending the country will give a decisive and harsh response to any threat against the Islamic Iran" and will make the enemies regret their deeds.
