RNA – Speaking at a public meeting at his office, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, the leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI), emphasised on the need to fight ISIL, adding that in order to fight ISIL, we must form both a regional and international front against them.

His Eminence added that with the lack of global unity against Takfiri terrorism, every day we will see another country fall to the terrorist actions committed by ISIL. The purpose of their terrorism is not just the destruction of Arab countries, but rather they have sought to destroy the entire world with their influence.

The Iraqi cleric explained that in the last few days ISIL has committed several terrorist attacks in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia. The main objective of ISIL’s first phase of destruction is to destroy the followers of Ahlul-Bayt (A) and secondly, as we saw in Egypt and Tunisia, they seek to exterminate innocent people.

Hujjat al-Islam al-Hakim stressed the need to fight against deviant and takfirist thoughts, saying:  “Unfortunately, we have witnessed the activities of thousands of institutes and Islamic centres which are promoting deviant and takfirist thoughts throughout the world. They use the pulpits and deviant thoughts to spread their propaganda among the people.”

The leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq said terrorism is not stopped in Iraq and Syria, it will soon spread to other countries in the region.

His Eminence noted the role of Iran and the fatwa (religious edict) issued by the Najaf-based Shi’ite authorities, including Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, calling for jihad against ISIL. “If the fatwa calling for collective jihad was not issued and the youths did not answer this call and if it wasn’t for the consultations and assistance of by the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq’s future would be uncertain.”

Hujjat al-Islam al-Hakim called for the protection of Islamic unity and solidarity against terrorism and added that victory is in martyrdom, saying that God promises victory against oppression to the believers, such as Imam Husayn (A) in Karbala.
