Rasa – A senior member of the Iraqi parliament, has condemned the prison sentence on the revered Bahraini Shi'a pro-democracy activist, Shaykh Ali Salman.

RNA – Hujjat al-Islam Humam Hammoudi, a member of the Council of Representatives of Iraq and the a senior official in the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, has condemned the trial of Shaykh Ali Salman, the secretary-general of Bahrain’s  al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, on his Facebook page.

 

Hujjat al-Islam Humam Hammoudi stated that the trial of Shaykh Ali Salman was a political move, saying: “The trial of the secretary-general of the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society by the Bahraini judiciary has showed that the influence of politics in the judiciary.”

 

He also added that he hopes that the people of Bahrain and the region can achieve justice, equality, stability and endurance.

 

Last Tuesday, a Bahraini court sentenced Shaykh Ali Salman to four years in prison on charges including insulting the Interior Ministry and inciting others to break the law. He was acquitted on charges of seeking regime change.
