Sheikh Maher Hammoud

RNA – Speaking at a conference entitled “The Resistance and Unity in the Thought of Fathi Yakan,” Shaykh Maher Hammoud, the secretary-general of Lebanon’s Union of Scholars of the Resistancees in the Middle East explained that the Middle East region faces great dangers due to the Takfiri and Zionist threats and stated: “The Islamic Resistance sounds the alarm and says with confidence that only the Islamic political experiment in the Islamic Republic of Iran has succeeded in reaching its goals.

"We must also learn from these experiences and make them the cornerstone of our actions so that the thought of the Resistance in Lebanon and Palestine can be victorious,” he added.

Shaykh Hammoud noted that the secret of the victory of the Islamic Resistance is that it is free from religious intolerance.

“It is clear to everyone that with the existence of religious intolerance in the country [Lebanon], there cannot be unity and until we have unity, the problems on the country’s path to progress will not be removed,” he said.

The Imam of the al-Quds Mosque in Sidon said that Lebanon’s future depends on its association with Islam and the destruction of the Zionist regime.

“The Lebanese nation is inextricably linked with Islam and no power can tarnish the image of Islam in the eyes of this nation,” Shaykh Hammoud said.

The late Shaykh Dr. Fathi Yakan was a Lebanese Sunni cleric who held a seat in the Lebanese parliament and was among the pioneers of the Islamic movement in the 1950s and the head of the Islamic Action Front. He is regarded as Islamic Group’s (al-Jam’at al-Islamiyah) leading ideologue.
