Rasa – A revered Iraqi mujtahid has been martyred by terrorists in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf.

RNA – According to Rasa News' correspondant in Najaf, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Jawad al-Adhari, a prominent cleric from the Iraqi holy city of Najaf, was martyred in a terrorist act on Wednesday.

 

The Iraqi scholar and mujtahid was reportedly martyred as he left the home of a friend in Najaf when unknown assailants opened fire.

 

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the assassination of this renowned Iraqi scholar.

 

Hujjat al-Islam al-Adhari was the son-in-law of Ayatollah Sayyid Kadhim al-Haeri, one of the several Iraqi sources of emulation and adviser to the former Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki.

 

He was also a student of the revered Grand Ayatollah Muhammad-Baqir al-Sadr, the founder of the Islamic Da’wah Party who was executed by Saddam’s regime in 1980.

 

Hujjat al-Islam al-Adhari actively supported the Popular Mobilization Forces fighting against ISIL terrorists.

 

He was also the target of an assassination attempt by an unknown gunman in 2012.

 

This great scholar’s funeral and burial will be held on Friday, May 15 at Najaf’s Abu Sukhayr Husayniyah.
