RNA – In an interview with Jordan’s al-Bawaba News, Shawki Ibrahim Abdul-Karim Allam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, condemned the current phenomenon of Takfiri terrorism and said "ISIL has tarnished the real meaning of the terms Islamic State and Jihad."
He called the actions of ISIL “acts of vulgarity.”
He added that Takfiri terrorists are massacring innocent people under the banner of the slogans of “Islamic government” and “jihad.” With their actions, they have tarnished the image of Islam.
The Egyptian scholar called for Muslims to fight the ideology and thoughts of these terrorists. “These terrorists seek to distort the image of Islam by forging hadiths (traditions) and issuing baseless and unfounded fatwas (religious edicts). Thus, scholars must confront them and not allow them to do such actions,” he emphasized.
Grand Mufti Shawki Allam emphasized that the members of ISIL are not Muslims, saying that the terrorist phenomenon of ISIL is due to a lack of education in the Islamic sciences and participation in classes taught by teachers who do not understand the real meaning of Islam.
The Grand Mufti of Egypt said that Islam is innocent of the actions of ISIL, saying that ISIL’s members kill people in the name of Islam.
“They follow the path, thought and belief system of the Kharijites,” he said, referring to a group from early Islamic history who were the first to exhibit extremist tendencies and the first sect to split away from mainstream Islamic thought.
