Rasa – Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi’s office has issued a statement denying that His Eminence has issued a statement in support of recent agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries in Lausanne, Switzerland.

RNA – In wake of the “deviousness” of some of the media sources who have falsely stated that Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi gave his support for the recent framework achieved for a final agreement over Iran’s nuclear program, the revered source of emulation’s office has released a short statement in reaction to the misinformation spread about his views over the recent news.

A statement of clarification has been translated as follows:

Recently, several sites have quoted Grand Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi’s statements made at the beginning of his advanced jurisprudence class at Qom’s Masjid al-A’dham (Grand Mosque) over the nuclear agreement reached in Lausanne. They stated that he said that “the contract is not ideal for [Iran], but due to the current climate it is the only way.”

It is emphasized that His Eminence absolutely did not comment on the nuclear deal reached in Lausanne – either in his class or elsewhere – and it is surprising that such open lies have been propagated.

It must be noted that some media sources generalized, with obvious deceit, the comments made by Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi after the Geneva Agreement was signed in November 2013 and linked them to the recent Lausanne deal.

Based on the Iranian nuclear deal framework, which was announced on 2 April 2015, Iran agreed tentatively to accept significant restrictions on its nuclear program, all of which would last for at least a decade and some of which would extend longer, and submit to an increased intensity of international inspections under a framework deal. The details are to be negotiated by the end of June 2015.
