RNA - Yemeni local sources report that the son of Abdel-Karim al-Khewani, a prominent Yemeni politician and a representative of Ansarullah movement in the UN-sponsored national talks which concluded January last year, was assassinated by gunmen in front of the family’s home in the capital, Sanaa.
The assassination target who was also a respected writer, says a pair of armed men riding on a motorbike opened fire and gunned down his father as he came out of the house on Wednesday morning.
Mohammed al-Khewani says the attackers left his father in a pool of blood and sped away. The elder al-Khewani was transferred to hospital but died of his wounds there.
Al-Massira television channel, which is run by the Houthis, confirmed the death of the senior leader. Another leading member of the Houthis, Mohamed al-Bekheiti, said the assassination took place on Sana’a Street, where Khiwani’s house is located.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for Khiwani’s assassination, although some analysts believe that forces loyal to Yemeni fugitive President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi may have been behind the killing.
Throughout the past two years, a number of Ansarullah politicians and figures have been killed in cold bold in the Yemeni capital. Despite the recurrent targeted killings, all of the perpetrators have gotten away.
