RNA – In an exclusive interview with Rasa News Agency, Ayatollah Abbas Ka’bi, the representative of the people of Khuzestan in the Assembly of Experts, referred to the importance of the electoral process in choosing the chairman of the Assembly of Experts from the perspective of the friends, as well as the enemies, of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He emphasized that the members of the Assembly of Experts are elected on the basis of knowledge, piety and expertise and the representatives must try to make decisions which are appropriate for the position of the Assembly of Experts.
Ayatollah Ka’bi explained that the Assembly of Experts is a symbol of the legitimacy and acceptance of democracy by the people of Iran and stated that the body’s members were chosen by the nation. It is natural that their representatives make decisions based on the assessment of internal regulations in order to protect the Islamic system of government.
The renowned scholar said that the recent election to the chairmanship of the Assembly of Experts was held in an atmosphere filled with knowledge, piety and spirituality.
Ayatollah Ka’bi pointed out that the decisions made by the representatives are based on deliberation over their duties and is in accordance with the criteria and law and these actions are not partisan and politicized as other elections are. He emphasized that they will never be as such.
On 15 March, 2015, Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi was appointed as the new chairman of Iran’s Assembly of Experts.
The high-ranking body of the Assembly of Experts elects and oversees the activities of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, who since 1989, has been Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei.
Members of the Assembly are directly elected to office by people for an eight-year term. It holds biannual meetings to appoint a new chairman.
