“All that which has occurred in Iraq breaks my heart and has sickened me. Until the time arrives when Iraq becomes a peaceful country and Iraqis are victorious and security and safety returns, I will not be comfortable,” he explained.

Ayatollah Bashir al-Najafi expressed his regret over the deprived situation of the war-torn country, saying that after the overthrow of the brutal dictator Saddam Hussein and his godless government, the sources of emulation were hopeful that the situation of the Iraqi people would improve, that they would regain their power after decades of dictatorship and would restore their past progress. “However, after over a decade of change, Iraq has made no progress and has not even been able to control its borders,” he stated.

His Eminence explained that the ongoing violence is one of the greatest problems facing Iraq. “All that which has occurred in Iraq breaks my heart and has sickened me. Until the time arrives when Iraq becomes a peaceful country and Iraqis are victorious and security and safety returns, I will not be comfortable,” he explained.

Speaking on the importance of intelligence gathering in regard to the security and control of Iraq’s borders, Ayatollah al-Najafi noted that increasing the monitoring of various government ministries and the security apparatuses, as well as punishment of those involved in corruption can help the Iraqi government to strengthen its sovereignty over the country.

The revered source of emulation congratulated Minister al-Lami on the important victories made against the Takfiri terrorists by the Iraqi security forces and popular militias in the northern province of Salahuddin in recent weeks, saying that the militia members had left their families and jobs to dedicate their lives to defend their beloved homeland. “These people must be the pillars of power in the new Iraq,” he emphasized.

During the meeting, Iraq’s Deputy Defence Minister, Ibrahim al-Lami presented a report on the performance of the department and thanked and appreciated Ayatollah al-Najafi for this fatherly support.

According to local sources, Iraqi security forces and militias fought their way into Saddam’s hometown of Tikrit on Wednesday, advancing from the north and south in their biggest counter-offensive so far against ISIL terrorists.
