RNA – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said Iranians are a nation who pursues the culture of Ashura and the one who have selected Imam Husayn (A) as their role model and hero, stressing that such a nation would never submit to oppressors or give up their ideals.

Rouhani made the remarks here Monday morning while addressing the opening of a gathering to pay tribute to the sublime status of martyrs.

Iran is not after invading any country or attacking any nation, Dr. Rouhani said, however, Iranian people will certainly defend their own territory, dignity and independence while needed.

The President also noted that Iran’s engagement in the war was to defend the country not to attack other nations or usurp other lands and countries.

He said today’s resistance of the Iranian nation against the big world powers is rooted in the sacrifices and resistance of martyrs in 8-year Imposed War.

Stressing that Iranians are proud of their leaders, the founder of the Islamic Republic the Late Imam Khomeini and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, President Rouhani paid homage to the sublime position of martyrs.

Pointing to the strong relations between the Iranian government and nation and the Islamic Revolution’s influence in the region as well as the country’s scientific and technical development, Rouhani said the country’s defensive power reflects a serious deterrence to enemies’ threats.

Calling it a national pride and dignity, President Rouhani said nuclear negotiation with major powers is similar to jihad. “Yesterday your brave commanders defended the country against the enemies on the battlefields and today, diplomatic commanders defend the interests of the country in the battlefield of nuclear talks with the world.”

President Rouhani attended the second congress to mark Martyr’s Day, here on Monday morning to honour a number of martyrs’ families.
