RNA – According to official website of the office of Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader will receive a number of officials and NGO activists working on environment issues on Sunday February 8.

The meeting is scheduled on the occasion of Natural Resources Week marking February 6 which is named as National Day for Planting Trees in Iran. The advisor to head of Environment Department Esmail Kahrom has told media announcing the upcoming meeting.

Renowned Iranian environment activist and academician Professor Parviz Kardavani has also informed media of being invited to the meeting and stated that “Environment is very important to our country. Air pollution, drought and haze are current major challenges for Iran’s environment.”

Meanwhile, Professor Kardavani criticized Iran’s Parliament for its ratification of plans to apply 10 billion tons of oil mulch to control haze in west and southwestern part of the country; “confronting haze and dusts requires scientific innovations rather than applying oil mulch which is harmful by itself.”

He also called for serious plans for resolving air pollution in Tehran and avoiding mere words.
