Rasa – Greetings everybody as Islamic Iran steps today into its 37th year following the resounding victory of the Islamic Revolution this day in 1979. On the historic 22nd of Bahman, corresponding to February 11, the day the Sage of the Age, Imam Ruhollah Mousavi-Khomeini (God bless his soul) led the grassroots movement of the Iranian Muslim people to victory over domestic despotism and foreign hegemony.
Imam Khomeini returns

Today millions of people are joyously rallying in Tehran and other cities of the Islamic Republic of Iran. They comprise all sections of the society. Among them are the elderly on wheelchairs and babies in perambulators being pushed by their parents, to commemorate the grand occasion. As usual the world’s political analysts and the media horns have their eyes and glued to the happenings on this day in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Of course, we do not expect all of them to be sincere reporters of the millions-strong presence of the Iranian people on the streets to celebrate the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, but even their grudging admission of the memorable marking of the 22nd of Bahman, is proof of the power of the people of Iran, and their message to Muslims and the oppressed all over the world.

A study of the history of revolutions shows that with the passing of years and decades the people lose enthusiasm and drift away from the ideals for which they or their parents had made sacrifices, to the extent that the so-called revolution remains a mere historical event of only academic interest, rather than a recurring thing to inspire people in the subsequent eras. Crane Brinton in his book titled “The Anatomy of Revolution” has referred to this fact.

In this book, the author makes a comparative study of the French, Russian, and American revolutions, and reaches conclusion that as time passes the fervour subsides, and the values and the situation the revolutionaries had tried to change gradually return to take control of the society, as if nothing had happened. According to Crane Brinton, the revolutions pass through three phases. In the first phase, after the overthrow of the ruling regime, the moderate forces come to power. In the second phase, after a short time, the government of the moderates is dismissed for not meeting the revolutionary demands of the people and is replaced by radical elements. The third phase which is called the Thermidorian Reaction – a term derived from the French Revolution, and the parliamentary revolt initiated on 9 Thermidor (July 27, 1794), which resulted in the fall of Maximilien de Robespierre and the collapse of revolutionary fervour – the radicals make the exit and the values of the former pre-revolutionary regime are restored.

Following the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, some short-sighted analysts tried to adopt the same criterion of Crane Briton to analyze the trend of developments in the Islamic Republic of Iran, but have become flabbergasted to discover that no such theories are applicable to the grassroots movement of the Muslim people of Iran that was brought to fruition by the Father of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini. In other words, the theorists and analysts have failed in their attempts, since the revolution in Iran is based on the timeless teachings of Islam and the dynamism of shari’ah [Islamic law]. This is the reason that despite the passing of 36 years, the revolution continues to attract the third generation in Iran by the millions, who have kept alive the ideals of the movement generated by Imam Khomeini. Today, no one can deny the reality that the liberating movements which took place against despotic regimes in various Muslim states have been affected by the Islamic Revolution that triumphed in Iran 36 years ago. So impressive is the impact of the revolutionary events on the people of our neighbourhood that even Turkey despite the laic secularism imposed on it, did not remain unaffected. In other words, the coming to power of an Islamic-oriented government in Turkey is proof of the fact that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, his government and party, are all indebted to the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Similarly the Islamic Awakening that brought down regimes in North Africa and West Asia over the past few years, owes its power to the Islamic Revolution.

The Islamic Revolution is based on the timeless worldview of Islam. One of the prominent features of the revolution in Iran is that it is Islam which is the primary force for building of revolutionary culture that dominates Iran today and continues its developmental task. Concepts such as Jihad or striving sincerely in the way of God, and the glories of martyrdom, coupled with piety, solidarity of the masses, adherence to humanitarian values, and hatred of oppression, are the salient features of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. The most glaring difference between the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the revolutions that have occurred in other places in the course of history, as well as in modern times, is the factor of God-oriented leadership that was manifested by Imam Khomeini. The Late Imam practices what he believed, and to be more precise he lived according to the letter and spirit of the egalitarian laws of Islam. This is the secret to the success of the Islamic Republic of Iran which today is led by a loyal disciple of the late Imam – Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

Now we understand the meaning of the words of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution who says: The people are the real owners of this system. This explains the success of the Islamic Republic in all fields, including its firm adherence to the original values and goals of the Islamic Revolution that have restored to the Iranian people their real Muslim identity. This is the reason that the Islamic Republic has become a role model for Islamic unity and solidarity for the people of the region and beyond, who are clearly inspired by the system of government in Iran, much to the chagrin of the enemies. All this means that the Islam claimed by the Godless Takfiri terrorists is nothing but a mockery of Islamic values as dictated by their creators in the West and the illegal Zionist entity. al-Qaeda and all similar outfits have miserably failed to fool the overwhelming majority of Muslims throughout the world, who cherish genuine Muhammadan Islam, as presented to the world by the Islamic Iran.
