Rasa – Speaking at Qom’s Holy Shrine of Lady Fatimah al-Ma’sumah on the solemn occasion of Arba’in al-Husayni, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi spoke on the effects of Arba’in – the fortieth day after Ashura.

RNA – Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi told the believers gathered that the massive presence of Iranians at the mourning ceremonies and acts of grief and lamentation showed the world their unique love for the “Master of the Martyrs.”

The revered source of emulation stated that this year, due to the Takfiri threat, the commemoration of Arba’in is especially poignant and that the millions of pilgrims walking from various places toward the Holy City of Karbala have a special and very important message. “This year large a number of people gathered in one place on one day. This has no precedence. Even during Hajj, there are not this many people present. We must recognize the power of this valuable asset,” he explained.

He also added that Shi’ite Muslims were not the only religious group present at the Arba’in mourning ceremonies, saying that Sunni Muslims and even Christians recognized the powerful message of Imam Husayn’s uprising against the Umayyad caliph, Yazid ibn Mu’awiyah. “Their presence provides evidence for the legitimacy of the Ahul-Bayt (AS) and for the victory of the martyrs of Karbala,” he explained.

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi stated that such glorious and great pilgrimage and millions of people attending mourning ceremonies creates fear in the hearts of the enemies of Islam and the school of the Ahlul-Bayt, and said: “Young and old, men and women, children and adolescents showed their love for Imam Husayn at the ceremonies. These sinister enemies cannot understand that they cannot remove the love of the Master of the Martyrs from our hearts.”

He added that Arba’in is one of the reasons for the victory of Imam Husayn. On the afternoon of Ashura, Lady Zaynab stated these bodies [of the martyrs] will remain on the earth but their flag will never be brought down.

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi also explained the goals of the uprising of Imam Husayn and his loyal companions, saying they were to enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil, fight heresy and innovations and restore true Muhammadan Islam. “If we also want to understand what the true meaning of being a ‘Husayni’ is, we should follow such a path [of Imam Husayn],” he explained.

In another part of his sermon, the renowned scholar explained that the existence of corruption, especially economic corruption, is not appropriate or appropriate in the Islamic system of governance. He explained that this news is shocking and one wonders how can the followers of Imam Husayn and the Islamic Revolution act in this way which is not justified and is against Islam. “This should not happen in the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he emphasized.

“Occasionally news of financial abuse is explained in the media as if there was no proper supervision or that there are problems with the judicial authority or other such problems. We must act so that corruption does not affect society,” Ayatollah Makarem—Shirazi added.

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi’s comments come as Iranian authorities have arrested 12 people for siphoning off more than $4.5 billion from one of the country’s main banks over several years.
