RNA – In an exclusive interview with Rasa News Agency, Aqil al-Husayni, the director of the Basij Council of Iraq, stated that the establishment of the Organization for Mobilization of the Oppressed (Basij) in Iraq is a “miracle.”

More than 30 years earlier, Imam Khomeini had the insight to establish the Basij and more than 100,000 Iraqi mujahidin linked to the Basij helped overthrow the dictatorship of Saddam Husayn. Due to the Basij’s efforts and divine aid, Saddam’s regime was overthrown.

The current juncture in history is being repeated and we have witnessed the establishment of the peoples’ militias in Iraq due to the fatwa of Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani which is aimed at defeating Takfiri terrorists.

al-Husayni referred to the fact that hundreds of thousands of Iraqi men have joined these popular militias, especially after the fatwa of Ayatollah Sistani. “I do not want to exaggerate, but I see this as a miracle,” he stated.

“I consider the establishment of these militias is a miracle because after the overthrow of the dictatorship of Saddam’s regime, the resistance groups strived to establish Basij forces in Iraq in order to defend the country but their efforts were not successful,” he added.

“Now, thanks to the deputy of Imam al-Mahdi – Ayatollah  Sistani – we have witnessed the formation the Basij in Iraq,” the director of the Iraq’s Basij Council stated.

al-Husayni stated that the peoples’ militia’s in Iraq are a continuation of the Basij in Iran. He stated that these militias have been established following the guidelines of jihad established by Imam Khomeini to overthrow the Ba’thist regime. The duties of the Basij militias follows the same framework as in the 1980s – their aim is to destroy the ISIL terror network.

He stressed that the those who established the Basij in Iraq are indebted to Imam Khomeini. “Due to the efforts of these militias, Iraq will become a graveyard for the ISIL terrorists,” al-Husayni concluded.
