Speaking at a conference Qom, Iran on Takfirism and extremism, Allamah Ibrahim Amin al-Sayyed, the chairman of the political council and special envoy of Hezbollah secretary general called on all Muslim clerics, whether Sunni or Shia, to confront the ideology of terror head on by challenging its religious legitimacy and ground.
Speaking of the dangers ISIL and other splinter terror groups represent for the Islamic world he noted, “ISIL has tried to display the wrong version of Islam. We must know now that their efforts are to distort the true Islam and now it is time to revive the historic role of pure Islam.”
He added, “We should know that Takfiris try to destroy common values between Muslims and try to fade them out to intensify the disagreements between Shia and Sunni in order to justify the massacre they commit. We must know that this congress is important because it aims at revealing the true identity of Takfiri groups and to show the movement led by Prophet Muhammad (S).”
al-Sayyed also warned against ISIL militants’ efforts to drive a wedge in between religious communities in the Middle East, to better sow fear and resentment among the people and ultimately turn the world against Islam altogether.
He stressed, “There are two movements among Takfiri groups: one calls all other Muslims as Laic while the other movement excommunicates the rest of the Muslims as non-believers so that they can issue the permission for their terrorist crimes.”
Moreover, “Takfiris conspire against Islamic Republic of Iran, Palestine and Islamic Resistance in Lebanon. They spread international terrorism and try to sow the seeds of discord between Islamic and Arab countries.
Opposing these movements has to be firm and Islamic in notion. They target all Muslims of the world. All scholars, thinkers, and Islamic centers are responsible for enlightenment. We support Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi’s statements and welcome congresses like this in other parts of the world.
We hope to send a clear message of unity through this congress to all Muslims and stress that insulting Islam’s sanctities and family has to become Haram (forbidden) and stood against.”
