An international conference is planned to be held in Iran later this month to investigate Muslim scholars’ views about extremist and Takfiri groups.

Prominent Muslim scholars from 83 countries are expected to take part in the international event.

This was announced Tuesday in a press conference attended by Ayatollah Mohsen Araki, secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought and Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Mahdi Alizadeh, secretary of the organizing committee.

Ayatollah Araki said the conference will be an intellectual and scholarly event in which Muslim world scholars gather to discuss their views on extremism.

He hoped that the conference will succeed in raising awareness about different aspects of the threat of Takfirism and extremism.

Ayatollah Araki went on to say that the vent will be held under the auspices of two grand sources of emulation Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi and Ayatollah Ja’far Sobhani.

Meanwhile, Hujjat al-Islam Alizadeh said more than 1000 abstract papers and 700 full papers have been submitted to the conference.

He said 200 Shi’ah scholars and 100 Sunni scholars including muftis and prominent figures will be present at the international gathering.

According to Hujjat al-Islam Alizadeh, the holy city of Qom will host the conference on “Extremist and Takfiri Groups in View of Muslim Scholars” on November 23-24.
